Jay Carney Leaving CNN to Head Amazon’s Global Corporate Affairs Department
Jay Carney is departing CNN to join Amazon as a senior vice president, heading the company’s newly-created Global Corporate Affairs department, TheWrap has learned.
The former White House Press Secretary’s group will include Amazon’s existing Public Relations and Public Policy teams.

Carney’s move is effective on Monday, when Paul Misener and Craig Berman will begin reporting to President Obama’s once public mouthpiece. Carney himself will report directly to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
The now-former CNN senior political analyst will split his time between the company’s Seattle headquarters and its Washington, D.C. office, Amazon said.

Before bolting for TV, Carney had replaced Robert Gibbs, becoming the 29th White House Press Secretary. Prior to that, he was Vice President Joe Biden’s director of communications. Josh Earnest succeeded Carney in the White House media room.
Previously, Carney enjoyed a career as a journalist, serving as the Washington Bureau Chief for Time magazine.
