Jet diverts safely to NYC with damage from birds
NEW YORK (AP) — JetBlue says an airliner was slightly damaged in a bird strike soon after takeoff from a suburban New York airport but was safely diverted to Kennedy International.
A spokeswoman said Friday that the cockpit crew reported damage to the nose of the Airbus 320. She said maintenance crews were examining the plane.
The airline said most of the 142 passengers who had left Westchester County Airport for Palm Beach International Airport on Flight 671, took later flights.
JetBlue said that after the bird strike, the pilot decided to head for JFK as a precaution. The plane landed there at about 9:55 a.m.
The spokeswoman said she did not know the number or type of birds involved.
