The New York Jets signed Josh Cribbs to replace kickoff returner Clyde Gates, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Cribbs is a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. He is tied with Leon Washington for the most kickoff-return touchdowns (8) in NFL history and has 11 return TDs in his career.

Cribbs hasn't played a regular-season game since last year. He was cut by the Oakland Raiders in the preseason.

To fill Gates' role at receiver, the Jets signed Greg Salas from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. Salas has 27 career receptions, all with the St. Louis Rams.

Santonio Holmes (hamstring) is likely to miss his third straight gamer.

Gates exited Sunday's loss against the Steelers with a shoulder injury.

The backup kickoff returner was running back Mike Goodson, who suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday. He was placed on injured reserve.

The Jets also signed rookie running back Miguel Maysonet to their practice squad and released linebacker Troy Davis.
