Job Posting Points to 'iPhone 5' Launch in Late Summer

In another sign that Apple will unveil a next-generation iPhone this September, a U_K. job listing seeks Apple iPhone salesmen to work on an "exciting project" from August 16 to October 29.

One of the job duties is to "generate and grow iPhone sales to ensure sales targets are met."

The listing was posted on Reed and recruitment is being handled by Gekko, a U.K. recruitment firm. In 2006, Gekko created a dedicated "Shop in Shop" space run by specially trained Apple salesmen (alpha-Geniuses?), which sounds like what it's hiring for now.

The post has sparked a wave of rumors around the blogosphere of an August next-generation iPhone launch, but so far most rumors point to September or October to coincide with the already-announced launch of iOS 5 and iCloud this fall.

Other enduring rumors about the iPhone include a radically different, "teardrop"-shaped profile, an edge-to-edge screen, a dual-core A5 processor (like the one used in the iPad 2), and wireless baseband chips from Qualcomm. There's also speculation that Apple may announce more than one iPhone when the time comes.

Last week the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was planning to sell 25 million "iPhone 5" units by the end of 2011.
