    Joe Biden Has a New Official Portrait: Deal With It

    After releasing updated portraits for President Obama and the First Lady for the second term, the White House today finally got around to sprucing up Vice President Joe Biden's official image. This time around, the man so affectionately referred to as "Diamond Joe" — he is a man for all memes, especially on The Onion's better days — is crossing his arms, smiling like only Joe can smile, and, well, you can't do anything about it:

    There are some noticeable differences between vice-presidential photographer David Lienemann's new portrait and the original, from 2009 (picture below). Instead of putting Biden's pale, Catholic complexion behind a seamless backdrop, they White House photo team has switched it up to give the portrait — and Mr. Biden — some pop. His hair was always white, so he could never go grayer like the President did between portraits. And Biden traded in the old boring black suit for a navy pinstripe option that goes with the new blue background. If anything, he looks more youthful than he did in the first term:

      (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Northern California on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter of the quake was 6 miles northwest of the town of Greenville, and near the smaller community of Canyondam, the USGS said. There were no immediate reports of injuries. Allen Shephard, a hunting and fishing guide at Quail Lodge at Lake Almanor in Canyondam, said the quake knocked him "right off the couch and onto the floor." The floor of the lodge was littered with broken dishware, and cabinets were in disarray, said Shephard, 62. ...
