Is John McAfee About to Come Clean?

Ever since tech entrepreneur turned potential murder suspect John McAfee hooked up with Vice magazine on the lam, his saga has taken such a turn for the unbelievable that, today, it's made its way almost back toward sanity. To recap, yesterday, after announcing his escape from Belize, Vice posted a photo of its editor in chief with McAfee, which — oops! — appeared to reveal the exact location of McAfee's new hideout in Guatemala. Immediately following that, in an attempt to throw us off his path, McAfee (and Vice's photographer) claimed the photo meta data revealing his move wasn't to be trusted — and he has since taken down the post containing it. In fact, McAfee has now deleted all three posts he put up on his blog yesterday, in favor for the following statement, which sounds legitimate.

I apologize for all of the misdirections over the past few days.  It was not easy to exit Belize and required many supporters in many countries.  I am in Guatemala and will be meeting with Guatemalan officials this morning.  If all goes well I will do a press conference tomorrow.

So, McAfee now admits that he is, indeed, in Guatemala and will even meet with "officials" there. Though it's not clear exactly what he and the officials will discuss — are they cops? Government protectors? — but it does sound like we get to find out at yet another hyped-up media event.

In the post, McAfee also clarifies his situation with Vice, which has gotten more precarious since the third-world gonzo travel journalists hooked up with the man wanted for questioning in a murder case back in Belize. The latest post from Vice is this: "quite frankly we don't know what the fuck is going on," followed by a link to McAfee's now dead apology post for messing with that photo's GPS data. McAfee says that things got "chaotic" yesterday because of the accidental location coordinate snafu, but that the two journalists are still with him.

Perhaps this new bit of information is just another piece in McAfee's plot to make us look one direction while he runs in another. We're still awaiting a full report from Vice sometime very soon, and stay tuned for details on what's sure to be an illuminating press conference from McAfee himself.

By Alasdair and Fotheringham CHERASCO, Italy, May 17 - A series of small but challenging climbs late on Friday's stage of the 2012 Giro d'Italia could not stop Britain's Mark Cavendish taking his fourth stage win and second in two days. Italy's Vincenzo Nibali remained overall leader but it was sprinter Cavendish who stole the show again after compatriot and pre-race favorite Bradley Wiggins failed to start the 254 kilometer stage, the longest in this year's Giro. In a bunch sprint finish Cavendish outgunned Italy's Giacomo Nizzolo and Slovenia's Luka Mezgec. ...

    • Kanye West's Angry 'SNL' Rant Makes Saturday's Season Finale a Must-Watch

This coming weekend is a big one for Saturday Night Live. It marks the end of Bill Hader's tenure on the show and Ben Affleck's fifth time hosting. But perhaps the most significant reason to tune in is the fact that Kanye West is the musical guest, and he's making it seem like he really, really doesn't want to be. With West's apparent frustration with the show and his penchant for, shall we say ... off-the-cuff remarks, producers should be worried and we should be excited. Is there a better combo than that?
