    Jon Huntsman

Jon Huntsman, former U.S. ambassador to China and former Utah governor, announced his candidacy for the White House on Tuesday, June 21, in front of the Statue of Liberty, which is the same backdrop Ronald Reagan used in 1980 to begin his run for the presidency.

“For the first time in history, we are passing down to the next generation a country that is less powerful, less compassionate, less competitive and less confident than the one we got,” Huntsman proclaimed in launching his bid for the GOP nomination. “This, ladies and gentlemen, is totally unacceptable and it is totally un-American.

“We have the power, we have the means, we have the character to astonish the world again by making from adversity a new and better country; this inexhaustible land of promise and opportunity.”

The Obama White House was not pleased when Huntsman announced in April that he resigning his ambassadorship so that he could focus on a run against Obama.

Huntsman, 51, is a fiscal conservative. The libertarian Cato Institute has praised his tax policies as governor, especially his reduction of the Utah sales tax.

Huntsman's father, one of Utah's wealthiest businessmen, with an estimated worth of approximately $1 billion, is the founder of Huntsman Corporation, a global chemicals company with approximately 12,000 employees worldwide. His maternal grandfather, David B. Haight, was an Apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He and his wife Mary Kaye have seven children.

Such a shame that Huntsman had to drop out due to his lack of appeal with the lunatic fringe crowd. He was easily the most qualified candidate of the GOP lot and while some look at his Obama/China deal as a drawback, it proves that Huntsman was willing and able to work with both parties.

The thing I liked about Huntsman was that he go the respect of the Libs while being a very big conservative.

I see the Anti-Constitution crowd is still here attacking Ron Paul supporters.

I liked Huntsman and was disappointed that he was told to drop out by the Republican handlers.
Today I see that Don Manzullo lost his race. Don was a very effective representative for us, and shouldn't have lost.
I blame the loses in my republican party on the religious right wing.
I hope that a third party will take root. Maybe the Moderate party.

I generally believe that name calling is unproductive and immature, however..Mitt Romney is a piece of #$%$ He gets the same zillions in donations from the same corporations as Obama. If either one gets elected, we will resemble Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia. The 99 percent will sink further, and we will lose more rights. 1,000 laws were made last year. 10,000 within the last decade. We are slaves. I hope that people will vote for the constitution this year.Ron Paul 2012
      • Ryan 4 mths ago
um, only 80 laws were passed by both chambers and the president... The 995 sink because we allow ourselves to sink by taking more and more government handouts.
      • Jason 4 mths ago
Um, only 9th grade girls say um.. But yes, I meant to say 100. Government handouts are only a part of our demise. That and the deceitful process of borrowing and inflating to finance wars, hosuing bubbles, and an obese government are the big ones. People will always take. We need leaders who aren't so willing to be stupid.

Limbaugh: "I want this President to fail!!" On becoming Speaker, Boehner: "Our only agenda is to make sure that Obama will be a one-term President." Huntsman: "I want the Party to unite behind whoever can beat Obama." What does this say about what Republicans plan for America? The very best answer to that is "nothing." The ONLY agenda of the Republicons since President Obama took office was NOT to help Americans recover; it was NOT to fix health-care; it was NOT to help the government avoid coming dangerously close to default; it was NOT to help change a thing about the disastrous Bush tax-cuts for the rich. If Republicons were EVER doing ANYTHING to help America (and I doubt that), they are without a doubt doing NOTHING to help this country. All they want to is to lie and accuse and bash our President so that THEY can gain more power -- not to help this country, but to apply MORE OF THE SAME anti-democratic, winner-takes-all mentality that has wrecked this country since Bush stole the election and sacked the treasury, and stated a useless and costly war based on LIES. What have these Republicons have to offer. They have made it clear. They want Obama and the Democrats out of the way so they can get back to sacking this country, killing off the middle class, and sinking us into worse inequality -- they want to collect their pay from the one per cent by helping one-tenth of a per cent of that 1 per cent, finish the job of sacking everyone else's share in the economy, so there will be nothing left except the hyper-rich and the poor upon whom they hope to continue prey. #$%$ the bunch of them. I'm waiting for the pendulum to swing back and take Republicon heads with it.
      • Ryan 4 mths ago
Boehner did not say that you stupid pos. And you know that the crisis was caused by government intrusion where it should not have been. Bush didn't do it. The liberals did.
      • Candle 1 3 mths ago
Poor Ryan. So angry. It's as if he's had his head in the sand. Bush didn't do it? Really Ryan? How many people lost theirt jobs his last month in office? Oh, that's right. 740,000. Who went to Iraq unpaid for? Who gave wealthy tax breaks unpaid for? Guess it must have been Carter, huh?
      • Ryan 3 mths ago
Candle 1, You are just as stupid, how many dems voted to go into iraq inpaid for? A president does not cause a crisis. Who deregulated the banks and didn't try to get his party to vote against deregulation? Who extended the Community Reinvestment Act? The tax breaks lowered rates for everyone. Why should people have to pay 40 cents on every doollar they make?
