Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was hospitalized in London Tuesday night following a"possible suicide attempt involving pills." The 33-year-old Match Point star, who has gone to rehab twice to try and kick a drinking problem, was reportedly found "slumped on the floor of his home." After initially refusing treatment, he was reportedly taken by ambulance to a local hospital, only to depart early Wednesday. [People]
The grosses for Bridesmaids are nearing $150 million, and producer Judd Apatow is taking the opportunity to do a little gloating. Yesterday, he emailed Deadline's Nikki Finke, an early and vocal doubter of the project. "I am so delighted to confirm that I was right and you were wrong," wrote Apatow.. "From now on when you say something which hurts me, I will remember to read your early Bridesmaid's opinions and predictions and that will soothe me." [Deadline]
New York Post editor Col Allan's war on newsroom leaks has cost "one of the city's top police reporters" their job, according to paper insiders. Allan is said to have gone on "a rampage" earlier this week after Ad Week broke the news that the paper was raising its newsstand price. "[E]ditors were commanded to call all of their reporters" in an attempt to root out the source of the leak. In addition to the firing, "a handful of reporters were brought into the main office and dressed down by editors about talking to journalists outside the paper" the day after the Ad Week story ran. Say this for Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder: he's a man of the people, and he's not afraid to honor his Midwest roots. After hitting the bars in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood with John Cusack and Chris Chelios on Wednesday, he played an unscheduled set Thursday during open mic night at Murphy's Bleachers sports bar, near Wrigley Field. His two-song set featured a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" and "All the Way," a "tribute song" he wrote for the Cubs. [Chicago Tribune]
