Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley Share a Kiss in Exclusive Snowden Sneak Peek

A political debate leads to a sweet romantic moment for Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley's characters in the upcoming drama Snowden.

Gordon-Levitt, who stars in the film's title role of Edward Snowden, and Woodley, who portrays Lindsay Mills, pay a visit to the White House in Washington, D.C., in an exclusive sneak peek from the film.

As the pair pass protestors, Gordon-Levitt remarks, "I just really don't like bashing our country."

The comment leads to a back-and-forth between Woodley and Gordon-Levitt's characters, with the latter insisting that his companion is "buying into" the liberal media before their charged exchange morphs into flirtation ... and a kiss.

Snowden, a former CIA employee, made headlines in 2013 for releasing documents detailing two NSA surveillance programs authorized by Congress that he felt intruded on Americans' right to privacy.

Gordon-Levitt told Playboy last year that his role as Snowden was thought-provoking, and made him question aspects of American government and surveillance.

"The government is not supposed to be the one with the power," he said. "That's the whole principle of democracy, of the United States, of the American Revolution, the American experiment, you could say. The people are supposed to be the ones in control. The government serves them. The Edward Snowden story exemplifies that. It's a chilling example."
