Juan Gris and porn star banned from prom top Google searches

The home page of Google featuring a doodle inspired by Spanish painter and sculptor Juan Gris.

A March 23 Google Doodle paying tribute to Spanish painter and sculptor José Victoriano Gonzalez-Pérez, better known as Juan Gris, pushed the artist's name to the top of the Google searches over the past seven days, followed by the name of the adult actress banned from prom, Megan Piper.

'Juan Gris' spent the majority of his life in Paris and died in 1927 aged 40. The painter and sculptor was known for his works in synthetic cubism as well as his 1924 set designs for the Russian Ballet.

The name of adult actress 'Megan Piper' was the term with the second most significant growth over the past seven days. The 19-year-old Megan Piper made headlines this week when she accepted an invitation to attend the prom from high school student Mike Stone only to be told by school authorities that she was not welcome at the event.

Outcry over the tragic case of Trayvon Martin, the teenager who was shot to death in Florida last month by a neighborhood patrol man, pushed the teenager's name to third and fourth position in this week's list. ‘George Zimmerman,' the name of the neighborhood watchman who admitted to killing Trayvon Martin also trended, in fifth place.

The spate of shootings that took place in Toulouse and ended with the death of gunman Mohammed Merah on March 22 pushed the name of the French city into eighth place.

Other popular terms over the past week include American football star Tim Tebow who transferred from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets on March 22 and ‘Simsimi,' an artificial intelligence app known for its liberal use of profanities, which allows users to create often hilarious two-way text conversations with their phone.
