    Judge in child abuse scandal donated to charity

    PITTSBURGH (AP) — A judge who granted unsecured bail to former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky also donated money to the charity he founded.

    The charity is at the center of child sex-abuse charges against Sandusky.

    District Judge Leslie Dutchcot gave money to The Second Mile in 2009 and volunteered for the group, according to annual reports and her web page.

    The charity's 2009 annual report says Dutchcot and her husband donated between $500 and $999 to The Second Mile.

    Dutchcot didn't immediately respond to a question about whether she'll recuse herself from the case because of those past ties.

    The judge set bail for Sandusky at $100,000 but he did not have to post collateral.

    The Attorney General's office declined to say if prosecutors would ask Dutchcot to recuse herself from Sandusky's preliminary hearing.

      This lady judge should be kicked off the bench for not taking herself out of this case because she knew the culprit and evidently condones his treatment of young boys. Is she an idiot? He's out of jail,no ankle bracelet and free to leave the country and he just may do it like Sharon Tates director husband did when he molested a 12 yr. old girl. He fled to Europe. Is Sanduskey going to fly thr coop too.? This judge should not of been allowed to handle his case. This is oh-so-wrong!!!!!

      Blatant conflict of interest. She should step down and / or back away from this case. More corruption in PA. Nothing new there. One of the most corrupt states in the U.S.

      Did the missing DA ever came to this judge, to try and bring charges against Sandusky for child abuse? If so, did she thwart of stifel his attempts or in anyway try to silence him?

      I think I can see their point- he's not going ANYWHERE. He's too well-known, he can't run and can't hide. Holding him in a jail would be a media circus and would cost the taxpayers even MORE money to hold him. Plus its tricky and time consuming and keep the guards and other prisoners safe during all the hubub.
      If anything, I'd have him on home arrest and suicide watch until the trial.
