Judge dismisses part of suits against Met Museum

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge has dismissed parts of some lawsuits filed against the Metropolitan Museum of Art over its admission fees.

In a ruling released Wednesday, State Supreme Court Judge Shirley Werner Kornreich granted the museum's motion to dismiss the parts of the suit over its the legal authority to charge entrance fees.

The plaintiffs claimed the admission fees violated the terms of the museum's lease with the city. The judge ruled the city had approved the Met's admission decisions for decades, and that the plaintiffs didn't have the standing as private citizens to sue on grounds of a lease violation.

Other parts of the lawsuits are proceeding, including a claim the museum was deceptive in how it asked for entrance fees.
