Julian Barnes Wins the Man Booker Prize
The British author Julian Barnes, who has been on the short list four times, won the 2011 Man Booker Prize on Tuesday for his novel The Sense of an Ending. Barnes had been the 5-to-4 favorite among British bookies, as The Atlantic Wire's Ray Gustini pointed out earlier on Tuesday, but despite his short odds it's got to feel good to win. Even if Barnes did once call the prize "posh bingo," according to the Associated Press. The 65-year-old Barnes won the prestigious, $82,000 prize over Stephen Kelman and Carol Birch and Canadians Esi Edugyan and Patrick deWitt.
