Julie Taymor to Attend the Opening of the 'Spider-Man' Musical

Ousted Spider-Mad: Turn Off the Dark director Julie Taymor may be pursuing a $300,000 arbitration claim against the show's producers, but that's not going to stop her from attending tonight's opening performance of the significantly retooled $70 million show that was formerly her labor of love. "She is so proud of the cast, crew, musicians and creatives with whom she worked on this amazing project for so many years, and she looks forward to sharing in tonight’s celebration," Taymor spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum confirmed Tuesday.

At the New York Times, Patrick Healy reports that Bono, who worked with Taymor for nine years on the score for the show before helping nudge her out of the production in March was "among those who reached out to Ms. Taymor" to attend. Healy writes, "Bono called her on Thursday, according to a person involved with the production; it was the first time they had spoken since her firing in March."
