Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929. Life in her homeland of Germany was hard, as Jews were made the scapegoats for all of Germany's problems. To avoid persecution, her family moved to the Netherlands when Anne was four years old.
When Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940 Jewish life became harsh. Eventually Anne and her family went into hiding. On her 13th birthday in 1942, Anne received a diary from her parents. She began writing her story on that same day.
Anne was captured by the Nazis on August 4, 1944 and ended up at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany where she died of typhus at the age of 15.
June 12 is "Diary Day" in honor of the brave, determined life of Anne Frank. You can honor her memory by starting a diary of your own, and then watching "The Diary of Anne Frank." You can check it out on Yahoo! Movies.
National Peanut Butter Cookie Day
The first recipe for peanut butter cookies appeared in George Washington Carver's personal cookbook. It called for cutting peanuts into chunks and adding them to the cookie dough, rather than using peanut butter.
Peanut butter cookies became popular in the early 1900s. The recipes evolved, and by the 1930s they resembled the type of peanut butter cookies we enjoy today.
June 12 is "National Peanut Butter Cookie Day." You can celebrate by baking up some hot and delicious peanut butter cookies of your own. Why not try this recipe for "Super Simple Peanut Butter Cookies" from Yahoo! Shine?
Crowded Nest Syndrome Day
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 27 percent of adults aged 18 to 34 live with their parents! This is just one part of a phenomenon sweeping our nation called the "Crowded Nest Syndrome."
Crowded Nest Syndrome refers to living situations where a home includes more than two post-parental adults. "A crowded nest can involve returning adult children, taking care of aging parents, raising grandchildren, or any other relatives or friends who move in due to unforeseen circumstances."
"Crowded Nest Syndrome Day" was created by the author of the book "Crowded Nest Syndrome," Kathleen Shaputis. Her hope is that the day will "help countless parents cope with the return of adult children."
You can celebrate this day by watching the 2006 comedy romance "Failure to Launch," starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker. Check out the details on Yahoo! Movies.
