June 1B and DH Rankings

Matthew Pouliot breaks down the June first baseman and designated hitter rankings

Welcome to the June first baseman and designated hitter rankings update. Players are ranked for the rest of the season based on a 5x5 scoring format. Included along with the position rankings is an updated top 300. Players are listed wherever they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

o There was some thought given to moving Goldschmidt ahead of Cabrera in the rankings. It would have happened if I thought he’d come close to maintaining his early steal pace. Goldschmidt, though, won’t keep running like this and probably shouldn’t anyway. He was 3-for-6 stealing bases in May after going 5-for-5 in April.

o There’s just no telling what’s going to happen with Morneau’s latest concussion issues. I think Paulsen is capable of becoming a top-25 first baseman in his absence, but that would depend on him playing regularly over Wilin Rosario. He’s a bad left fielder, so I don’t think there’s going to be much room for him if Morneau pulls off a successful comeback in a couple of weeks.
