PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Jurors have finished their first day of deliberations in the trial of an Illinois man charged with beating five members of his ex-wife's family to death.
Judge Scott Drazewski sent jurors in the Christopher Harris trial home at 5 p.m. Thursday after about two hours of deliberating. The jury is expected to take up the case again Friday.
Harris is charged with killing Rick and Ruth Gee, two of her children and one of his in their home in the small town of Beason in 2009.
Harris admits killing one child. But he claims he killed 14-year-old Dillen Constant in self-defense after finding the boy had killed his own family.
Harris' brother testified that Harris admitted killing the family after a night of drinking and drug use.
