Kanye West To Receive The Video Vanguard Award At The MTV VMAs

Hold on to your hats, Moonmen, and acceptance speeches, because MTV have announced that Kanye West will receive the highest honour at this weekend’s Video Music Awards - the Video Vanguard Award.

May we suggest that Taylor Swift *might* want to get involved in HIS acceptance speech, six years on from his infamous interruption?

OR, could T-Swizzle perhaps present Kanye with the prestigious award, to show the world that things have totally thawed out between the two of them?

Just a thought, guys. Just a thought.

Kanye, 38, is being given the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (a Lifetime Achievement Recognition) to celebrate the many incredible years of music we’ve had from him.

He’s previously been nominated for an impressive 32 awards at the MTV VMAs, walking away with Best Male Video for ‘Jesus Walks’ in 2005, and Best Special Effects for ‘Good Life’ in 2008.

In 2004, he made his presence known with an unforgettable performance of a medley of hits from ‘The College Dropout’ (Jesus Walks/All Falls Down/Through The Wire) with none other than Chaka Khan.

A year later, he performed ‘Gold Digger’ with Jamie Foxx, before showcasing a new sound with ‘Love Lockdown’ in 2008.

Then, of course, there was his performance of ‘Otis’ with Jay-Z in 2011, before he returned in 2013 for a, erm, particularly dark performance of ‘Blood On The Leaves’.

No, we don’t mean dark as in scary. We mean someone clearly forgot to turn the lightswitch on before Kanye went on stage.

Yo, Kanye, we’re gonn’ let you finish, but could you be a babe and turn the lights on please. Thanks.

He’s in good company with this award, with previous recipients including Beyoncé (2014), Justin Timberlake (2013), Britney Spears (2011), U2 (2001), Janet Jackson (1990), Michael Jackson (1988), and Madonna (1986).

There’s no word yet on whether he’ll crack out an epic performance to celebrate his award, but we’ll be keeping everything crossed.

There are plethora of amazing performers who HAVE been confirmed though, including The Weeknd, Tori Kelly, Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Twenty One Pilots and Pharrell Williams.

The awards air live this Sunday, 9pm (ET in America), and it’s safe to say we cannot WAIT.
