    Karzai urges Taliban to allow polio vaccine teams

    KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan's president is urging the Taliban to allow teams conducting a polio vaccination campaign access to areas under their control.

    Hamid Karzai said Tuesday said that whoever hampers the medical workers "is the enemy of our children's future."

    Afghanistan is one of just three nations where polio remains endemic. The two others are Nigeria and neighboring Pakistan.

    Last year, the government registered 80 new cases of polio, most of them in the restive southern provinces. That figure was three times higher than the total for 2010.

    The polio virus, which usually infects children in unsanitary conditions, attacks the central nervous system, sometimes causing paralysis, muscular atrophy, deformation and, in some cases, death.

      Unfortunately the Afghan people kinda, uh, hate us, and don't trust Americans bearing syringes or syringes supplied by Americans. Depressing since polio is VERY close to being eradicated and that hatred is one of the last obstacles in the way.

        Even the Taliban accept our inoculations and medical care when they are absolutely sure nobody is tell. I can't tell you how many villages we set up medical treatments in. People brought their sick loved one's young/old carrying them in their arms over mountains. They knew what we were giving them help and that it was good despite us being Infidels Occupiers in their lands. The only thing that ever kept them from accepting our help was the Taliban. There Now you know a little MORE about Afghanistan.

      I can't blame them, if America started a vaccination campaign supplied by Chinese vaccines, I would be very worried.

      Just look at what we did to try and find Osama, in Pakistan we set up blood drives or some kind of vaccination drive just so we could take blood samples from everyone near Osamas lair to try and find any samples of Bin Laden blood and trace Osama to Pakistan. Im not saying that I wouldn't of used that tactic either, but just considering our past, I would be warry to if I was the Taliban.

      The Taliban, firmly rooted in 7th century desert intellectual poverty; therefore, the concept of vaccinations is foreign because the prophet spent his time writing about killing the infidel rather than healing the sick and brokenhearted. The Taliban is stuck, and the Taliban refuse to look foward.

        Because 1) we're supposed to be better than the radicals, 2) most people in Afghanistan aren't "the enemy", and 3) the eradication of a disease that has blighted mankind for untold years far transcends a brief squabble between cultures.

      Don't let them in to save the chidren. That means the next time we have to invade them there will be more targets that can't run very well.Maybe the goat-humper mohhammad can cure them.

        @Ron, An Army Colonel named Chivington pretty much said the same thing you just did. He said, "Kill em all, big and small, nits make lice." He called himself a soldier but pretty much he was just a mass murderer masquerading as one. Killing noncombatants in order to avoid future reprisal is not only a warcrime, it is nothing more than rationalized cowardice, and unworthy of soldiers with true character.
