Turning 40 is nothing to be feared, Kate Winslet has assured fans.

The actress, who celebrated the milestone birthday on October 5, appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to talk about age and how she’s “earned her stripes”.

Speaking about welcoming her big 4-0, she appeared to have no problem with ageing.

“It really feels fantastic actually,” Kate said, when the chat how asked her how it felt to be 40. “I mean I have to say I was gearing up to it. I was getting ready for it.

“And I feel like I’ve earned these 40 stripes. You know. I’ve made it. Does anyone else have that feeling? When you get to 40 and you’re like yes I’m there! I really do have that feeling so yeah it’s lovely.”

This isn’t the first time that Winslet’s demonstrated how down-to-earth she is.

The actress might work in an industry obsessed with body image, but the mum-of-three previously confessed that bouncing back to her pre-pregnancy weight after the birth of her now 22-month-old son Bear just wasn’t on her priority list - and neither is that much lusted after flat stomach.

In a refreshing interview with Time Out magazine, Winslet revealed being "around for her children” and “being healthy” are her priorities.

“I don’t want to spend my time thinking about the size of my a**e. I want to be healthy and I want to have as much fun as I can have. “I want to be around for my children. That’s it. Those are the priorities. Not getting a flat stomach. I believe in being normal and healthy.”

And that’s why we love you, Kate.
