Katy Perry donates proceeds from new single to charity

“Teenage Dream” singer Katy Perry announced on Twitter Wednesday that all proceeds from her new single, “Part of Me,” will be donated to a charity called MusiCares.

“Part of Me” reached the top ten charts on iTunes after she debuted it at this year’s Grammy Awards — meaning a bundle of money for a good cause.

MusiCares is “one of my favorite charities for the arts,” Perry told ABC News radio.

The charity, set up by The Recording Academy, helps musicians who are in financial, personal or medical trouble. Typically, musicians don’t start their career being millionares and most don’t have health insurance.

At the annual MusiCares Person of the Year Gala on Friday night, Perry sang the Beatles’ hit “Hey Jude” in tribute to Sir Paul McCartney.
