Katy Perry Vs. Miley Cyrus: Battle of the Sheer Dresses

Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus seem to be timing their fashion statements quite effectively. Not only did they both rock silver dresses at the 2012 Oscars, but now they're both making a splash with the sheer dresses.

Yesterday, Katy stepped out in Paris for Fashion Week in a mint-green dress with a sheer chiffon skirt that showed off her underwear. The "Part of Me" singer completed the outfit with a coral satchel, white sunglasses, and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Meanwhile, last week, Miley made an appearance at the William Morris Endeavor party wearing a cream chiffon shirt dress. The sheer skirt also revealed her underwear. "The Last Song" actress completed the outfit with a long necklace which she wore backwards. And like Katy, she wore Christian Louboutin pumps. (Are these two planning their outfits together, knowing that bloggers will have material to compare them?)

    Who Wore It Better?

Who won the battle of the sheer dresses? I'm going with Katy for this round. She manages to combine old-school glamour (like the sunglasses) with some edgy pizzazz (the blue hair actually works with this ensemble)!

I love the unlikely combination of colors from the mint-green, to the coral, blue, and white. This combination works because the dress itself isn't too busy. Although the top part has a studded pattern, it's not so prominent that it detracts from the rest of the ensemble.

I also love the cut of this dress. For one thing, it's symmetrical (unlike so many of the one-shoulder ensembles that celebrities are wearing lately). I also like the length, long in the back, but showing some leg in the front.

Miley has been stepping it up in the fashion department (as seen at Elton John's Oscar viewing party), but this sheer number wasn't one of my favorites. The prominent pattern and the front ruffles together are bit distracting. I wish she would have picked one or the other, but not both.

Still, it wasn't a total flop. I did like the nude color combined with the bright red color on the soles of the pumps. I also liked the way her dress scooped down in the back

Which sheer dress ensemble did you prefer?

The only time normal people seem to care about national beauty pageants is when one of the contestants messes up the question-and-answer round in the worst way possible. Well, it happened again last night at the Miss USA pageant, with Miss Utah giving an answer so bad that it eclipsed all other terrible pageant answers before her. Meet 21-year-old Marissa Powell.
