Katy Perry's Friend Bonnie McKee Says Orlando Bloom Is an Upgrade from John Mayer

Katy Perry's friend and co-writer on many of her hit songs, Bonnie McKee, says Perry's new love Orlando Bloom is an upgrade from ex John Mayer.

"I would say so," McKee told reporters with a wink at the Musicares Tribute to Lionel Richie Saturday night, when asked if she thought he was an "upgrade" from Mayer. "But you didn't hear that from me," she added, giggling.

McKee didn't admit that the two are officially an item, but gave her approval of the potential pairing, and added that they would certainly look good on each other's arms.

"What an attractive couple that would be," McKee said.

Perry, 31, and Bloom, 39, have been heating up recently, with a source telling PEOPLE that the pair is growing closer.

"Orlando and Katy are spending more and more time together," the source said, noting that the two aren't shy about indulging in a little PDA. "They are introducing each other to friends [and] they look very happy together."

Perry even joined Bloom and his son Flynn, 5, for a family outing, going with the father and son to a birthday party for Robert Downey Jr.'s son Exton Feb. 6.

"They were laughing, playing music and joking around with Flynn," an insider previously told PEOPLE. "They stayed at the party for hours. Katy looked very comfortable at the kids party. She seemed very happy to spend the day with Orlando."

The pair first turned heads at a Golden Globes afterparty Jan. 10, when Bloom made a beeline to Perry.

It's a big change for the singer, who was on-again and off-again with Mayer, 38, for close to four years.
