Keene man dies following medical emergency on Mt. Monadnock

Nov. 21—A Keene man died Tuesday after experiencing a medical emergency while hiking Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, conservation officers said.

Around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, New Hampshire Fish and Game personnel were notified of a medical emergency on the Marlborough Trail on Mt. Monadnock.

Kenneth Swymer Sr., 70, of Keene, collapsed along the Marlborough Trail and was not responsive, conservation officers said.

Swymer was hiking with a close friend, who immediately called 911, and began and continued CPR until help arrived, officials said.

"Unfortunately, life saving measures were not successful and Swymer succumbed to his medical emergency," Sgt. Geoff Pushee with the Fish and Game Department said in a statement.

Conservation officers, along with police officers from Troy and Jaffrey, firefighters from Jaffrey, Keene, Dublin and Swanzey, medical personnel from the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial
