ARMONK, N.Y. (AP) — Kerry Kennedy says she believes her recent auto accident on a New York interstate was caused not by drugs but by a seizure stemming from an old brain injury.
Kennedy, the ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, pleaded not guilty Tuesday night to driving while drug impaired. She was released, but she has to submit to fingerprinting and drug evaluation.
The 52-year-old Kennedy was arrested Friday after her car struck a tractor-trailer on an interstate north of New York City. Police said she was swaying and slurring her words.
After the court session, Kennedy said tests have shown she had no drugs or alcohol in her system. She also underwent several medical tests, including an MRI. She said her doctors believe she suffered a seizure, though she has never suffered a seizure before.
