    Kershaw and Dodgers agree to $19M, 2-year deal

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a salary arbitration hearing next week, agreeing to a $19 million, two-year contract.

    Tuesday's deal for the 23-year-old left-hander calls for a $500,000 signing bonus and salaries of $7.5 million this year and $11 million in 2013. It covers all but his final year of arbitration eligibility.

    The agreement mirrors that of San Francisco's Tim Lincecum, who in his first time eligible for arbitration two years ago agreed to a $23 million, two-year deal.

    Kershaw was 21-5 with a 2.28 ERA and 248 strikeouts last year, winning the NL pitching triple crown. After making $500,000, he had asked for $10 million in arbitration and had been offered $6.5 million.

      Sounds fair to me , now get some run producers signed and he may win 50 games over next two years. He reminds me of Sandy Koufax,but he should not have to pitch a shutout every game. I am 72 and a lifelong Dodger fan and I share birthday with Tommy Lasorda. How is that for good luck?

      @Hondo & @ Sam Squatch: Agree with both of you. I would have done more and locked up Kershaw for at least 5 yrs. I am not yet ready to compare Kershaw to Koufax, not after just one really good season.

      Kershaw has a way to go before I am willing to put him in Sandy's category, but he got off to a good start this year. Let's see what happens this season before we annoint him as being as good as Sandy Koufax.

      Yes, I really like Ethier. He is an excellent rightfielder with a great arm and as good a hitter as any other regular in MLB. He plays "all out" on every play and he plays hurt. Great example for guys trying to make the team and for rookies.

      I, too, am a lifelong Dodger fan (although not nearly as ancient as you, Hondo - however, I was at the 2nd World Series game ever played in LA on my 12th B-day!). I am so glad that MLB forced out McCourt - what an incredible idiot! Love to see one of the groups bidding to buy the Dodgers have a Dodger connection, although I wouldn't be disappointed if Magic Johnson's group had the winning bid. Wouldn't it be outrageous to have Peter O'Malley's group get the franchise?

      I still say O'Malley should have become Commissioner. How did they ever manage to pick that clown Selig?
