Khan Academy launches iPad app for free educational tutoring on the go

Online education site the Khan Academy has released a free iPad app that lets you download videos for offline viewing, access interactive transcripts of lectures, track your course progress and access more than 2,700 videos on subjects ranging from math to history.

"It doesn't matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology; Khan Academy's materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge," said the Khan Academy.

Shantanu Sinha (@shantanuKSinha), president and COO of the Khan Academy, announced the release of the app via a March 11 tweet.

Online learning has been growing in popularity as organizations and websites provide better access to quality resources. Some of the world’s best universities including MIT and Stanford now offer free courses over the internet.

TED, an organization known for its series of inspirational talks, released its iPad app in 2010. The app enables users to browse and view the more than 800 TEDTalks for free.

The Khan Academy iPad app can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store for free.
