Kik Messenger review

Kik is a very straightforward, multipurpose messenger application that gives you more ways to communicate with your friends than plain text messages. A recent update provided a larger host of tools and improved stability, but the continued lack of privacy options is still discouraging.

Pros

Awesome features: Kik allows you to message friends with texts and images in real-time as well as provides you with additional tools such as the sketch pad and built-in browser. We found hundreds of linked applications are available to make messaging more engaging.

Great designs: Using Kik is very easy because of the small amount of buttons and windows featured in this application. Individual chat logs, in addition to the tucked-away search bar, make Kik a clean-cut application. Chat dialog color schemes can be changed to one of the eight available designs.

Fast performance: Kik performs excellently when sending messages. You will be able to see if your chat partner has received and opened the message as well as if they are currently typing a message on their device.

Cons

Limited privacy: Although the recent update gave you more privacy options than before, such as blurring message content from new people, Kik still allows users to send messages to whomever they desire. You will still receive pesky notifications, despite moving the conversation to a separate section of the application.

Bottom Line

Kik gives you many more features than a standard messaging application, and the fast performance, lack of advertisements, and high usability make it an excellent messenger. We still would encourage Kik to include an option that allows you to only communicate with friends, in a slightly similar way as Snapchat.
