Kim Dotcom claims vindication after leaked music industry report

Kim Dotcom may be zany, but he also has some compelling facts on his side. In an interview with Ars Technica Thursday, the embattled Megaupload founder pointed to a leaked report from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) showing that Megaupload was far from the worst offender when it came to hosting URLs that infringed upon copyrighted material. In fact, per the IFPI report, the number of infringing URLs hosted by Megaupload was positively dwarfed by file-sharing sites such as filesonic.com, which accounted for nearly half of all infringing URLs, and wupload.co.uk.

“If the largest file hoster in the world does not represent a significant percentage of infringing URL’s found by IFPI, this can only lead to one conclusion,” Dotcom told Ars. “Megaupload was very effective in taking infringing links down… We had an average takedown time of 3 hours based on all takedown requests in the history of Megaupload. We also had 180 takedown partners with direct delete access and they have removed links instantly, millions of them.”

Needless to say, this line of defense would be even more convincing if it were delivered via a rap video.
