A new Kinect Star Wars trailer appears out of nowhere, as if crawling from the belly of a makeshift Tauntaun shelter, but don't expect to see any gameplay in this live-action skit.
Bathrobed actor Chris Pratt (of TV show Parks & Recreation) faces off in a lightsaber battle against an exasperated Darth Vader, the dark lord clearly not used to dealing with youthful pranks.
A concept video revealed the motion-controlled game in June 2010, with a gameplay trailer following in June 2011 and promising lightsaber sequences, force powers, podracer events and skirmishes in space; the full game is now expected April 2012.
Broadening Kinect Star Wars's scope beyond lightsaber duels is to Microsoft's advantage, determined as it is to prevent the use of accessories with the hands-free Kinect sensor.
Both Nintendo and Sony PlayStation have already shown that they have the technology for lightsaber battles, with Red Steel 2, Skyward Sword and Wii Sports Resort on the Wii, accompanied by Sports Champions and No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise on PlayStation 3's Move set-up.
Technology's one thing, but licensing's another, and for the moment it's the official Kinect Star Wars, LucasArts' Lego Star Wars and Force Unleashed, and EA's online Old Republic that are most prominent.
