KL shares open lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower today, in tandem with the lacklustre trading on Wall Street overnight.

At 9.30am, the key index was 12.36 points easier at 1,855.33 after opening 4.66 poinst higher at 1,872.26.

Decliners outpaced gainers 252 to 162 while 237 counters were unchanged, 974 untraded and 13 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 401.64 million shares worth RM167.19 million.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index erased 122.77 points to 17,345.74, the Plantation Index trimmed 43.96 points to 8,490.82 and the Industrial Index shed 21.9 points to 3,220.74.

The FBM 70 added 2.87 points to 14,188.36, the FBM Ace declined 9.49 points to 6,874.26, the FBM Emas Index eased 63.59 points to 12,938.8 and the FBMT100 Index decreased 63.96 points to 12,529.69.

Heavyweights, Zelan went up two sen to 40 sen, Systech and RGB International edged up half-a-sen each to 18 sen and 16.5 sen, respectively, while Globaltech Formation and Sanichi Technology were flat at 9.5 sen and three sen, respectively.

Among actives, Axiata and Sime Darby were flat at RM6.94 and RM9.48, respectively, but Maybank lost 14 sen to RM10, Public Bank trimmed eight sen to RM19.10, TNB fell four sen to RM12.38 and CIMB contracted 10 sen to RM7.26.-- Bernama
