Friends of Kim Kardashian are "scoffing" at Kris Humphries's claim he just wanted to live the simple life in Minnesota with his reality TV bride. They say that once the 72-day marriage entered its downward spiral, the New Jersey Nets forward started "chasing fame" and began talking about "branding" his name "with cologne, nightclub appearances and what not." Kardashian, who came to fame after a leaked amateur porn video and a series of reality shows and now endorses everything from clothes on QVC to QuickTrim weight-loss supplements, was "especially put off" this past weekend when Humphries reportedly hired a Hollywood image consultant and didn't like it that Humphries wanted to "keep their connection going, even if they ended their marriage." In retrospect, Humphries never should have signed what sounds like the real-world version of the Massey prenup before he married Kardashian. According to sources familiar with the details of the couple's prenup, the document "keeps ALL assets separate, and with such a short marriage neither walks away with money from the other -- not a single penny." A spokesman for Adele denied speculation that the "Rolling in the Deep" singer has throat cancer. "We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord," announced her rep. "All reports regarding any other condition are 100 percent false." The singer's been having vocal problems on-and-off all year. Her announcement Friday that she'd be cancelling the remainder of her 2011 concerts and the concerns of fans on Twitter got the grim hashtag prayforadele trending. [New York Daily News]
Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene (formerly Charlene Wittstock) are attending the Princess Grace Foundation Gala at Cipriani in New York today. It's their "first appearance since their dramatic July wedding," when Charlene reportedly "tried to flee" Monaco right before the ceremony to return to her native South Africa, but was corralled by palace officials who took away her passport. 81 year-old billionaire George Soros has served papers arguing that thw $50 million lawsuit filed against him in August by his 28 year-old Brazilian soap star ex-squeeze Adriana Ferreyr should be dismissed. Ferreyr claims they were an item for five years and that Soros went back on a promise to buy her a $1.9 million Manhattan apartment In his motion to dismiss, he characterizes their romance as "an "on-again, off-again and non-exclusive intimate relationship: and that she was on a "continued quest to cash in on their casual relationship." Just to stick the knife in further, the papers go on to suggest that she "may have been disappointed that Soros moved onto other women, ending her hopes of living in an extravagant ‘dream apartment’ for free." Actress Reese Witherspoon has been photographed several times carrying "Chloe Paraty python and leather purse" that retails for $3,820 to various functions throughout California. The bag itself is an aggressively ungreen item, and if she bought it in California, it would have been a crime, since sales of python skins have been banned in the state since 1970. It's not illegal to buy it someplace else and bring it into California, as long as she doesn't try to sell it. So hold on to that snake bag. [Radar]

Never let it be said Newt Gingrich doesn't eat local. The GOP presidential hopeful was spotted at the McLean Family Diner on Sunday afternoon Callista, neartheir home in suburban Virginia. Gingrich was "the only man in the joint wearing a suit" and greeted warmly by his fellow diners. Last weekend, the Gingriches were at Tysons Corner Mall in McLean.
