    Kristie Alley Voices Support For Lady Gaga After Weight Gain: It's 'Insanity'

    Kirstie Alley has long been scrutinized for her fluctuating weight and the actress says she feels for Lady Gaga after the pop star recently put on a few extra pounds.

    "Most of my career I was pretty lean, so when I gained the weight, obviously people [noticed]," Kirstie told People. "With [Lady Gaga], she gains [25] pounds and it becomes this huge thing."

    The 61-year-old "Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars" contestant said the weight expectations for celebrities are not normal and constantly perpetuate an unhealthy, unattainable standard for girls and women around the globe.

    "It's Hollywood that is obsessed with weight," she said. "I think everyone should try to be healthy. Lean is better than not lean, but I think we send a horrible message to the world, especially to girls."

    Kirstie finds the hullabaloo surrounding Gaga's weight gain revelation (the "Born This Way" singer recently told radio host Elvis Duran she gained weight after taking a respite from her usually strict diet) ridiculous given her normally petite frame.

    "[Lady Gaga] was so freaking skinny that [25] pounds would make her a what, size 2? There's an insanity here," she said. "I know it's a pressure on her. I know it is. It's really hard to play that game."

    As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Gaga also extended gratitude to her little monsters for their unwavering support over the weekend.

    "[Thanks] to my fans who love me no matter what, and know the meaning of real beauty&compassion," she Tweeted on Saturday. "I really love you."

    The singer also shared a photo of curvaceous icon Marilyn Monroe, with a caption that read, "To all the girls that think you're ugly because you're not a size 0, you're the beautiful one. It's society who's ugly."
