Kurdish Forces Retake Towns From ISIL in Northern Iraq
Kurdish forces have retaken two crucial border towns in northern Iraq from ISIL militants, according to a senior Kurdish military official Sunday.
Brig. Gen. Shirko Fatih told the AP that Kurdish fighters were able to push ISIL out of the villages of Makhmour and al-Gweir about 25 miles from Irbil. The Kurdish counterattacks were coordinated with American airstrikes.
American drone and fighter jet strikes protected Kurdish forces near Irbil, according to a statement by U.S. Central Command, by destroying three armed ISIL vehicles and damaging others.
