LA police move in on Occupy camp

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police have moved in on the Occupy Los Angeles encampment at City Hall and began arresting protesters who defied an eviction notice.

Officers began a raid on the camp early Wednesday, two days after a deadline passed for protesters to clear out. Police took also took similar action in Philadelphia, telling members of the movement they would have to leave and arresting six protesters who had crossed into a street at the site outside City Hall.

About half of some 500 tents in Los Angeles remained after the Monday morning deadline and the remaining protesters showed no sign of leaving.

The Los Angeles encampment is one of the largest still remaining in the country. Police have removed protesters in other cities. Some of those instances involved pepper spray and tear gas.

The movement against economic disparity and perceived corporate greed began with Occupy Wall Street in Manhattan two months ago.

It's funny how this guy's been able to ignore Occupy DC in spite of the fact that a conservative blogger infiltrated them to ridicule them and then got pepper sprayed...

They should “Occupy” Nancy Pelosi’s luxury 200-seat Boeing 757 Airliner.
Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California every Friday and returns every Monday, at a cost to the taxpayers (YOU and ME are those taxpayers!) of about $60,000, one way!
that is $480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to us of $5,760,000!!!

she needs to be voted out of there the first chance we get

        Who told you this.
A Rep. would never be in a luxury jet. The USAF does not have them. Now the Executive jets where she is working, that is a different story you Republican idiot.

Why does the president not say something against this civil unrest , does he not want a peaceful nation --maybe he can do something to earn that premature peace prize

It serves as a great distraction, keeping people's attention focused elsewhere, no one is watching his failures.

The same reason they won't take their public tantrums to the White House. Because they're 100% Obama-voting leftists.

The president doesnt say anything because he supports the protesters.......

No doubt some Los Angeles lawyer is just counting up the number of new clients being arrested.

The Occupy movement is the last gasp of American freedom. They are not anti-consumerism, anti-corporation, or anti-capitalism. They are anti-corruption and anti-collusion at the very top. Not the wealthy or upper glass. The super-billionaires who are eroding our Constitution. Taking away our freedoms. Corporate lobbying is corporate bribery.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. The "movement" represents the class of people who demand that the government take care of all their needs. The "participation trophy" generation. Their end is only achieved by big government and the LOSS of personal freedom.
      • Reason 5 mths ago
Juror Number 9, you probably have big vested interests and or are part of the 1% to not want change? In that case you are not a human being, but rather a parasite taking all you can from real people and giving nothing in return.
      • Mr. Muligan 5 mths ago
The 1% don't post here. They are the super-wealthy. Only 400 of them with 3 million offspring / relatives. Juror has not done their research. A perfect example of a brainwashed fool. The ones that are betraying America with their apathy and ignorance.

Go to an Occupy rally and see the senior citizens there protesting. Trying to protect American freedoms. MANY are employed, own businesses and are not lazy, hippies. The way shallow-thinkers like to profile them. The Occupy Wall St. movement is the last chance America has to end the madness in Washington D.C. Wall St. encourages, inspires and funds that fraud.

No thanks I'm not interested in being raped, getting lice, contracting tuberculosis, or coming in contact with urine and feces.I don't care about the people there, I care about what they have done. They have made public space unusable for public. That is such a selfish thing to do. Even private space like Zuccotti park that they were allowed to use became a filthy disgusting #$%$ h o l e. If anyone there owned a business, I would stay at least 400 yards away from them.

You would give Archie Bunker a run for his money with your ignorance.

government drones tell us the economy is in its second year of recovery and corporate profits are at all-time highs. Government statistics, false storylines, and entitlement programs are designed to confuse the public and obscure the fact we are in the midst of another Depression. Everyone has seen the pictures of the Great Depression breadlines, farmers forced off their land during the dustbowl, and downtrodden Americans in soup kitchens. The economic conditions today are as bad as or worse than the Great Depression. This Depression is hidden from plain view because there are no unemployment lines, bread lines, or soup lines. We are experiencing an electronic Great Depression, as food stamps, unemployment compensation, Social security payments and welfare benefits are electronically delivered to millions of recipients.

Has corporate greed gone away yet? No, it has not. We may all be joining the protesters soon if things don't get better. If you are arrested, at least you will get food and shelter, something that many of us are losing due to unemployment and lack of jobs. The Rich have a responsibility to society, because we are all connected. This generation of Rich are so greedy that they think only of themselves and fail to realize the consequences of their selfishness. Most of us are willing to work very hard for very little money, however, if there isn't any work available, what's a person to do? Are we expected to move to China where all the jobs are?

Part of the Occupy Boston crowd got rowdy and...get this...demonstrated in front of a protestant Christian mission!!

There were plenty of homosexuals, anarchists, socialists, communists, and god knows who else that participated in shouting at the mission's workers, but they stood their ground against the aggressors, and the protestors eventually left.

I believe this whole "Occupy" thing is part of a well oiled machine bent upon demonizing anything related to capitalism and freedom.

I love it that these smelly protesters are part of the liberal left. Give them more airtime so people can see how misguided and pathetic true liberalism is.

Watching it on local LA news: For the first time in my 34 years, I am very impressed with LAPD. They are being calm, moving slowly and with respect for these people. Oakland, take note..

Wow, yahoo sure gave this story short shrift. I'm surprized that they touched the subject at all. They don't call this site yahoo for nothing. I suppose now they'll treat us to a three page story about Jessica Simpson.

The Occupy Activists love quoting the founding fathers, ONLY when the quote suits them. Too bad they DON'T practice what the founding Fathers meant.
