Showing her patriotism in a red sparkly suit, matching eyeshadow, blue nails and flag-patterned platform shoes, Lady Gaga wowed everyone as she belted out ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.

Actress Marlee Matlin also signed the anthem while she sung.

Viewers took to Twitter to share praise for the performance, with one writing: “I’m crying. @ladygaga mommy I’m so proud of you! I…I have no words to describe how I love you #SuperBowl #LadyGaga”.

Another tweeted: “@ladygaga you absolutely killed it. Definitely one of, if not the best performance of the National Anthem at the super bowl ever”.

Before the Super Bowl, she told the NFL Network: “It’s such an honour and a total dream come true.

“I’ve always wanted to sing the National Anthem at a major sporting event since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl, it is the ultimate.”

She added that Whitney Houston’s performance of the National Anthem was particularly memorable for her, explaining: “When I was little, I used to stand at the top of my staircase and sing along with her version.

“At home, the more I would sing it, the more my dad would say, ‘You’re getting pretty good, kid.’ So to be here now and to sing it to America, it’s just wonderful.”
