Lakeview Auto in Waubay is a total loss after an early morning fire Monday.

Waubay Fire Chief Adam Jorgenson said the Waubay Volunteer Fire Department was called to the business at 104 W. U.S. Highway 12 about 5 a.m. and found a fully involved fire.

He said vehicles parked around the shop made access to the building difficult.

Jorgenson said because the fire was as involved as it was, firefighters worked to contain the flames and protect neighboring buildings. No other buildings were damaged, but materials inside the auto shop made the fire a challenge to battle.

The business is a total loss, and vehicles and motorcycles were inside the building at a the time of the fire. No one was injured, however, Jorgenson said.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters were on scene for about five hours initially, then returned a couple of times Monday to put out hot spots.

Vehicles parked around the building did not appear damaged, Jorgenson said. The entrance to the nearby gas station was closed while firefighting efforts were ongoing to protect response equipment staged in the parking lot, he said.

The Webster Fire Department provided support with additional oxygen for firefighters.
