Larry Wilmore Debuts 'People v Bill Cosby'

After exploding as one of last year’s biggest news stories, the sad, sordid case of Bill Cosby continues to make headlines — and, if Larry Wilmore has his way, someone will make it into a prestige cable drama, too. On the Feb. 9 episode of The Nightly Show, the host introduced his version of FX’s breakout hit, The People v. O.J. Simpson, entitled, appropriately enough, The People v. Bill Cosby.

Wilmore himself played Cosby in the skit, which depicts the embattled comedy icon meeting with his legal team to get his courtroom strategy straight. “It’s a race-based conspiracy,” the suits suggests, comparing their client to such heavily prosecuted black celebrities as Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson and, of course, O.J. Simpson. But Cosby undercuts his own defense by offering his lawyers various drinks laced with sleep-inducing pharmaceuticals. In his intro, Wilmore made it clear that he hadn’t forgotten about the Cosby case, even if other outlets have. “The silver lining in all of this is that these women are finally getting an opportunity to tell their stories,” he remarked. In other words, stay tuned for the next episode The People v. Bill Cosby.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore airs weeknights at 11:30 p.m. on Comedy Central
