Lawyer for troubled Australian actor Matthew Newton fears for client following Miami arrest

SYDNEY - A lawyer for Australian actor Matthew Newton says he fears his client may be suicidal after being arrested in the U.S.

Newton was arrested in Miami on Friday on charges of resisting police and trespassing. He was released Saturday on $2,000 bond.

His lawyer, Chris Murphy, was in a Sydney court Tuesday to represent Newton on charges related to a scuffle with a Sydney taxi driver in December.

Murphy told the court he fears his client is suicidal and is seeking psychiatric treatment following the Miami arrest.

The judge adjourned the Australian case for three months to allow Newton to resolve the U.S. charges.

Newton was dropped as host of a talent show after he was accused of assaulting former girlfriend and "Transformers" actress Rachael Taylor in 2010.
