Got a girlfriend called Prue? Live in Melbourne? Then why not crowd fund your Valentine's Day gift along with a bunch of other people.

That's the proposal of one gentleman, lucky enough to have a girlfriend called Prue, who sadly doesn't have the cash to book an airplane banner declaring his love this Feb. 14.

To show his undying albeit thrifty affection, he's using Kickstarter to crowdsource the funds to fly a banner above Melbourne that will read: "Happy Valentine's Day, Prue. Love, Me." That way, anyone named Prue can have the thrill of thinking it came from their own boyfriend or girlfriend. The project has raised A$888 (US$629) as of writing, out of a target of A$2,500 (US$1,769).

The hopeful Casanova, a Melbourne man who works in advertising, told Mashable Australia he didn't want to be named so other partners of Prues could claim the banner as their handywork.

Like all good ideas, Prue's boyfriend said the concept came to him at the pub a few weeks ago. He and his friends were talking about Valentine's Day, and they were teasing him for doing anything at all for the occasion. That's when he decided to go all out.

Unfortunately, his cover is already blown. His girlfriend spotted his Kickstarter video on Facebook and knew it was him despite his pixellated face. "She freaked out," he said. "She's totally stoked. She knew it was me straight away and now she's sharing it with other Prues as well."

If he doesn't reach his funding target, he said the stunt might not happen and Valentine's Day will be more of a budget affair. "I can probably just give her the plane in the video, and say 'this is all I can do.' Maybe we can go on one of those plane rides at Lunar Park as a backup," he said.

Still, he thinks he's definitely earned points with his girlfriend for even trying. "This has definitely taken it up a notch. I think this will cover me for the next 10 years," he said.

While Prue's lover admits there may not be enough Prues out there with partners willing to cough up, he still has hope. "What I really hoped for was that guys who don't date Prues would want to give me a hand. I've got faith in mankind," he added.
