    Leading New York Law Firm Weitz & Luxenberg Offers More Legal Help to Cancer Victims During Lung Cancer Awareness Month

    Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C., a nationally-recognized firm that has for decades promoted awareness about cancer and asbestos, announced that it is using the occasion of Lung Cancer Awareness Month to intensify its already focused commitment to help lung cancer victims.

    Congress designated November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness about a disease that, in the United States, ranks among the most prevalent – and deadly.

    As part of its Lung Cancer Awareness Month initiative, Weitz & Luxenberg has opted to reach out to everyone with lung cancer caused by occupational asbestos exposure – even those who may have smoked for years – in order to make it more widely known that the firm stands ready to fight the asbestos companies that contributed to the disease.

    Weitz & Luxenberg has already joined forces with many of the nonprofit groups that advocate for more lung-cancer research and earlier, better medical interventions.

    To illustrate how Weitz & Luxenberg fights alongside cancer victims in court, the firm points to the case of a steamfitter who was exposed to asbestos at a number of Buffalo-area job sites. The plaintiff, Walter Koczur, for years worked with gaskets containing asbestos and, as a result, developed lung cancer. His case ended in victory, with the Weitz & Luxenberg asbestos trial team able to win for Koczur an $11.6 million verdict against The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NY Supreme Court index #99-122340).

    In a prepared statement, the firm said “Workers in industries like Mr. Koczur’s are among the most likely to develop asbestos-related cancers, including lung cancer and mesothelioma. Industrial workers like Mr. Koczur often faced truly terrible dangers without even knowing it. Asbestos exposure is not just a leading cause of lung cancer, it is a personal tragedy. We are very gratified to have been able to help right this terrible wrong."

    Weitz & Luxenberg reported that it has to date represented hundreds of clients with lung cancer, and said it has in its sights the goal of continuing to represent these people and raise awareness for their cause far into the future.
