A-League elimination final: Victory top Sydney 2-1

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Brazilian midfielder Gui Finkler's goal two minutes into injury time gave the Melbourne Victory a 2-1 win over Sydney FC in an A-League elimination final on Friday.

Archie Thompson opened the scoring for Melbourne in the 19th minute, and Seb Ryall equalized in the 34th.

The match could be the final A-League appearance for former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero, who has not signed a new contract for Sydney FC for next season after two years in the league.

Del Piero received his 10th yellow card of the season in the match.

The Victory will play either first-place Brisbane or second-place Western Sydney in the semifinals, depending on the result of Saturday's match between Central Coast and Adelaide.

Brisbane and Western Sydney had first-round playoff byes.
