League of Legends developer Riot Games is working with Internet service providers across Europe as part of its grand ambition to build its own dedicated network for the continent.

Riot Games believes a bespoke network will, among other benefits, allow for improved Internet connection speeds and stability.

The developer, which has witnessed its flagship game accumulating 67 million players every month, recently opened a datacenter in Amsterdam, which is connected to a similar facility in Frankfurt. According to Polygon, the company has direct connections to more than 500 ISPs throughout Europe.

"Our goal is to extend Riot's presence in regions affected by limitations in order to improve the player experience and minimize connection difficulties," Riot said in a blog post.

"Instead of middleman backbone providers getting ISP traffic to us, we will be building direct connections to the ISPs that LoL players use, and then announce to these ISPs: feel free to use Riot's backbone for your customers playing LoL. Since our backbone is solely dedicated to League traffic, this should improve the experience for a vast majority of player traffic as it leaves an ISP on its way to Riot."

Riot says it is already working "as fast as possible" to realize its ambition to build its own continental networks across North America and Europe.

On Thursday, Riot announced that the 2015 League if Legends Championships will take place across Europe.
