MANITOWOC — League of Women Voters of Manitowoc County will hold its annual meeting at the Holiday Inn, 4601 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc, starting at 5 p.m. May 16.

The LWV will be giving its Democracy in Action Award to the Lincoln High School Student Senate for sponsoring public forums for candidates for the Board of Education of the Manitowoc Public School District.

Guest speaker at the event will be Manitowoc County Human Services Department Director Lori Fure.

Roncalli Catholic Schools receives donation from volleyball tournament

Roncalli Catholic Schools recently received a donation from the 49th annual TRCC Volleyball Tournament. Roncalli Catholic Schools in Manitowoc recently received a donation. The proceed came from the 49th annual TRCC Volleyball Tournament and will benefit Roncalli athletics.

Tournament directors Rusty Walesh and David Anschutz presented Nathan Kaderabek, Roncalli Catholic Schools athletic director, and Ashlee Johnston, Roncalli High School varsity volleyball coach, with a check for $2,037 from the TRCC Volleyball Tournament.

The tournament was sponsored by the Roncalli Athletic Association. Proceeds offset the costs of youth sports programs at Roncalli Catholic Schools.

Library Card Free Day at Historical Society May 11

Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold its annual Library Card Free Day in conjunction with Manitowoc Public Library, Lester Public Library and Brillion Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11.

Visitors can show their Manitowoc-Calumet Library System card and get free admission to the museum.

A story time will be presented at 11 a.m. in the museum’s one-room schoolhouse, Shadyside School. A variety of make-and-take activities will also be available for youth inside Shadyside School.

Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets May 15

Manitowoc County Parkinson’s Disease Support Group, an outreach program of the Manitowoc Senior Center, will hold its next meeting at 1p.m. May 15 in the social room of the Senior Center, 3330 Custer St., Manitowoc.

The group will hold an open meeting with individual sharing and updates, as well as to critique the April event “Promenade the Park for Parkinson’s Awareness” and collect any outstanding pledges.

Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend. An optional on-site meal is available for $6 for ages 60 and older and $8.75 for ages younger than 60 beginning at 11:30 a.m. A 24-hour call-in reservation to the ADRC at 920-683-4180 is required for the meal.

Red Cross to hold blood drives in Manitowoc County

American Red Cross will hold the following blood drives in Manitowoc County in the coming weeks:

  • May 14, noon to 5 p.m. at Lakeshore Technical College, 1290 North Ave., Cleveland;

  • May 16, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Kiel High School, 210 Raider Heights, Kiel;

  • May 20, noon to 4 p.m. at Shoreline Credit Union, 4440 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc; and

  • June 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Elks Lodge, 1807 N. Rapids Road, Manitowoc.

The Red Cross noted Type O blood donors and donors giving platelets are especially needed. Book a time to give by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

All who give through May 31 will get a coupon for a free haircut at Sport Clips. Virtual Dementia Tours slated for June 27

The Dementia Care Specialist at the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Lakeshore in Manitowoc will hold in-person Virtual Dementia Tours June 27 with a capacity of 12 participants per session.

The morning session runs 9:30-11:30 a.m. while the afternoon session runs 1-3 p.m. at the ADRC’s office at 1701 Michigan Ave., Manitowoc.

“Virtual,” in this context, does not mean you will take the tour via Zoom. Instead, it means you will go through a simulation of what it might be like to have dementia. It’s geared toward caregivers and those with loved ones with dementia.

Electronics drive, shred event coming up June 18 in Two Rivers

The Two Rivers Octagon Club will host a spring electronics drive and shred event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18 at the J.E. Hamilton Community House parking lot. The community house is at 1710 W. Park St., Two Rivers.

Most electronics will be accepted at no charge, but freon items, TVs and monitors do have a charge.

Items not accepted include lightbulbs, paints, batteries, solvents and medications.

People are asked to limit shredding to five brown grocery bags and remove any clips or metal from paper.
