The iPhone 6 is expected to be unveiled on September 9th during a special media event that’s yet to be confirmed by Apple, and hit various markets, including U.S. and other initial launch markets the following week.

Specifically, the iPhone 6’s release date is expected to be September 19th, the second Friday following the phone’s unveiling on September 9th.

Similarly, in past years, Apple released the iPhone 5s/5c, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S on the second Friday after the press conferences during which the devices were unveiled.

In 2011, the iPhone 4S was the first iPhone to launch in fall, arriving in stores on October 14th (Friday), 10 days after its media event that also took place on a Tuesday. In 2012, the iPhone 5 launched on September 21st (Friday) after being announced on September 12th (Wednesday). A year later, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were introduced on September 10th (Tuesday) and hit stores on September 20th (Friday).

Between the iPhone’s announcement and its launch, Apple typically schedules the latest iOS release and starts pre-orders for the handset.
