Leaked photos of iPhone 7’s headphone adapter emerge

Unless Apple has a last-minute change of heart, the iPhone 7 will ship this coming September without a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack. And given how reliable and universal the tried and true headphone jack is, Apple’s rumored decision to banish it from existence has understandably created a firestorm of debate.

Seeking to soften the blow, recent reports suggest that Apple will ship a Lightning-to-3.5mm dongle inside of every iPhone 7 box. With the iPhone 7 unveiling just a little bit more than a month away, we’re starting to see images and video which purport to show us what the aforementioned dongle is going to look like.

The video and photos below were originally spotted by MacRumors and allegedly emanate from a Foxconn factory in Vietnam. While everything is purely speculative at this point, the dongle does have an Apple style aesthetic.

More importantly, the dongle itself doesn’t appear to be unreasonably clunky, though it may lend itself to getting lost more readily than we would like. All the same, for iPhone users who a) can’t stand Apple’s white earbuds or b) still aren’t overwhelmingly keen on Bluetooth headphones, a free lightning-to-3.5mm dongle will have to do.

Additionally, the video below demonstrates how when the dongle is connected to an iPad running iOS 9, an incompatibility error message pops up; but when it’s connected to a device running iOS 10, everything works seamlessly.

While this doesn’t conclusively prove that the depicted dongle is legit, it’s certainly a compelling piece of evidence.
