Leaked photos show completely redesigned next-generation iPhone

iPhone 5 will be just 7.6mm thin – thinner than the Galaxy S III and even HTC’s One S

We’ve seen the purported new iPhone housing in photos and on video, and now, images of what is claimed to be a working, fully assembled sixth-generation iPhone have been published by a Chinese website. TGBUS on Wednesday posted a series of photos it claims to have received from an anonymous source. While the authenticity of the device pictured cannot be proven, the site claims it has analyzed the images and determined that they have not been altered in Photoshop. The housing on the Apple smartphone pictured in the images, which TGBUS refers to as the “iPhone 5,” matches the hardware shown in previous leaks, and several details can be ascertained if the device is in fact authentic.

First and foremost, the purported next-generation iPhone appears to be much thinner than the current iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 models. While the current-generation iPhone case extends several millimeters in each direction beyond the wrap-around antenna, the new design appears to barely extend beyond the width of the antenna.

The new model also appears to by taller than the current iPhone, and the display looks taller as well. This aligns with previous reports, which state that Apple’s sixth iPhone will include a display that measures 4.08 inches diagonally. The exact size of the screen on the phone in the images cannot be determined.

Also seen in the leaked photos is a smaller dock connector, an antenna that matches the color of the back of the device — and it’s hard to miss some fine scratching on the black antenna that surrounds the phone — a two-tone rear cover that appears to be aluminum and glass, a relocated audio jack, new speaker grills and what appears to be a larger camera lens and LED flash.

Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to launch sometime this fall, and a recent well-sourced report suggests that Apple is currently targeting early September.
