    BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese authorities blame pilot error for the 2010 crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet that went down minutes after takeoff from Beirut in a thunderstorm, killing all 90 people on board, a report released Tuesday said.

    Ethiopian Airlines immediately rejected the report, saying it was incomplete and biased.

    The Boeing 737 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on Jan. 25, 2010, during a fierce storm.

    "The truth lies in the Lebanese report, which reveals that the pilot holds full responsibility for the plane crash," Lebanese Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi said Tuesday.

    According to the report by Lebanese authorities, the probable cause of the crash was "the flight crew's mismanagement" and "a failure in basic piloting skills." The investigation analyzed black box data recordings and other evidence.

    "The aircraft did fly in heavy rain and icing conditions, but it did not encounter any severe turbulence or lightning strike," the report said.

    The investigation also found the captain flew 188 hours in 51 days "with the absolute minimum rest," which "could have likely resulted in chronic fatigue affecting the captain's performance."

    The report suggested the crew could have been affected by a meal they ate during their stop in Beirut, noting they were heard discussing how they had trouble sleeping afterward.

    "That comment could have been a banal one if the accident didn't occur," the report said.

    The managing director of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam, dismissed the report's conclusions, and said he believes Lebanese authorities withheld information.

    Capt. Desta Zeru, a vice president of flight operations, said the airline believes a mid-air explosion caused the crash.

    According to the Lebanese report, however, "no signs of fire or explosion was detected in the aircraft wreckage."

      is my math wrong? 51 days X 24 hrs =1224 total hrs. divided by 188 = 6.51 hrs. per day, working in the oilfield I put that many hours in, in just 2 weeks! Should have went to flying school instead! someone please check my figures before I drill this well to the center of the earth.

      But it does not mean that he is responsible for downing the aircraft. You see 188/51=3.68 hrs a day, I do not consider that much work at all, but among all airlines in the world, the Lebanese Airlines (Middle Eastern Airlines) is the best when it comes to costumer services and safety. Nothing comes close! I flew the Ethiopian Airlines once. It’s was not bad, but crowded and disorganized at the beginning at the flight…..

      the guys want to show brave face & hide large part of evidences from autopsies & wrekage for independent investigators to do analysis & frame likely causes of the diaster. They think the world would beleive what they present. Funny that they want to bully everyone else!

      Who knows? The only thing you can be sure of is that yu can't trust any "official" statement coming out of Lebanon........there is no honesty in the Middle East.

      @Lebanese blame pilot error for 2010 air crash: It is not enough to refute a report, tangible evidence, or at least a logical conclusion would suffice an argument. In my opinion, simply refuting a report with simple beliefs is not convincing enough to atone for 90 lives lost at a crash...
