    LECMPA President Elected to Board of Trustees, Detroit Historical Society

    Locomotive Engineers and Conductors Mutual Protective Association (LECMPA), a leading non-profit job insurer protecting union transportation workers, is pleased to announce that its President, Susan Tukel, has been newly elected to the Board of Trustees for the Detroit Historical Society.

    “The Detroit Historical Society and their museums are cultural treasures and help us remember our proud past,” said Tukel. “I love Detroit and my interests and background in the transportation field coincide with the new excitement you can feel as the Motor City comes back to life."

    Tukel was born and raised in metropolitan Detroit. Tukel earned her B.A. in History with high honors and high distinction from the University of Michigan, and her J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan Law School. Tukel began her affiliation with LECMPA in 1982 as the Association’s General Counsel. For over 20 years she provided guidance on all legal issues, primarily in areas of job insurance claims and compliance with state insurance laws. Named President in 2005, Tukel has doubled the Association’s financial reserves and diversified membership beyond railroad crafts to other transportation workers.

    “We are happy to have Susan as a trustee,” said Robert Bury, Executive Director and CEO of the Detroit Historical Society. “Her experience will be an asset to us as we continue to move the organization forward.”

    The Detroit Historical Society is a private, nonprofit organization located in Midtown, the heart of Detroit’s cultural center. Founded in 1921, its mission is to educate and inspire our community and visitors by preserving and portraying our region’s shared history through dynamic exhibits and experiences. Today, the Society operates the Detroit Historical Museum and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. In addition, the Society is responsible for the conservation and preservation of more than 250,000 artifacts that represent three centuries of our region’s rich history. Through its museum exhibits, school tour programs, community-based programs and history-themed outreach efforts, the society serves more than 100,000 people annually.     LECMPA is a premier provider of job protection insurance for union transportation workers. A non-profit mutual protective association, founded in Detroit in 1910 by locomotive engineers and conductors to protect each other from job loss due to the harsh discipline climate, LECMPA has expanded and grown to include other transportation crafts.
