    Leicester Square Box Office Presents the Future of Theatre to STAR Members

    Leicester Square Box Office is pleased to present their study on how the theatre ticket industry will fare in 2012. On Wednesday 25th January, Dilip Ganeshan and Srikkanth Balakrisshnan will be presenting their thoughts on expected advanced ticket sales throughout 2012 to members of STAR (Secure Tickets from Authorised Retailers).

    Centrally located in the heart of Leicester Square, as well as Box Office Kiosks in both Stratford and Shepherds Bush, Leicester Square Box Office is expecting another successful year for theatre ticket sales.

    Currently, advanced bookings for West End shows are down by 10% of their normal level for this time of the year. With the London Olympics and the Queens Diamond Jubilee looming, does this drop in advanced sales suggest a shift in the Theatre Ticket buying process?

    Data acquired by the Leicester Square Box Office into the difference in the number of advanced bookings between ‘Londoners’, theatre goers from the ‘Rest of the UK’ and ‘Overseas Visitors’ during 2008 goes somewhat to explain the current drop in advanced sales.

    As a Londoner, you are most likely to buy a ticket to a West End show, between 2 and 30 days in advance. West End visitors from the Rest of the UK extend this booking period from 2 days, to 3 months in advance. However, the data showed that ‘Overseas Visitors’ were most likely to book tickets either on the day, or the previous day.

    With the expected increase in overseas footfall in and around Leicester Square during the summer of 2012, the Leicester Square Box Office expects this to be the year of the ‘Last Minute Purchase’. LSBO have already started to address issues highlighted by their previous overseas clientele, in order to maximise ticket sales this summer, as well as continuing their local marketing strategy for the UK market.
